Rare Pokémon Charizard Card Sells for $336,000

Earlier this month, a first edition 1999 Pokémon Charizard card went up for sale on Heritage Auctions. What made this card so special is that it is from the game’s first English print run and was given a perfect PSA GEM-MT 10 grading. Only 121 Pokemon cards have ever been given this rating, making this an incredibly rare asset. After receiving 69 bids, the card was finally sold at a price of $336,000.

Heritage Auctions released a statement about the card that also painted a positive picture for the future growth of the Pokémon card industry. Demand for Pokémon cards continues to climb and most record sales have occurred over the last two years. This latest sale was part of a larger trading card auction event called Heritage Auctions’ Trading Card Games Signature Auction March 4-5, which included cards from Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh cards. The total auction across the card franchises, with continued growth expected as trading card games become even more popular as investments, collectibles, and as a playable game asset.
