Luka Dončić, the Slovenian basketball player of the Dallas Mavericks has teamed up with the Jordan sneaker brand to create his first signature sneaker, the Luka 1s. As the Mavericks moved forward into the playoffs, fans were excited to see the return of Luka Dončić, whose ability to play was originally questionable due to a playoff game 4 injury. Dončić’s return excited fans who didn’t expect to see such a quick return to the court, where he helped the Mavericks beat the Jazz 98-96.
Although it was a surprise for fans to see the returning player in action, sneakerheads were excited by the debate of his signature sneaker. Dončić wore his new signature Jordan Luka 1s for both games 4 and 5 of this series. These sneakers are the latest signature athlete shoe for the Jordan Brand, an established brand of the NIKE, Inc.
Dončić’s low-top sneakers feature state of the art design and technology to help athletes play at their best. They feature an IsoPlate foot frame designed to keep feet from sliding in the shoe, resulting in better movement and control when worn. Similarly, the kicks provide extra comfort due to their incorporation of Formula 23 foam. A new performance form by Nike, Formula 23, was designed to provide responsiveness throughout player side-to-side movement, and tailored to remain lightweight and environmentally sustainable. This combined performance system is similar to those leveraged in other Jordan Brand designs.
Considering the success of the Jordan Brand, it’s exciting to see a new “Signature Shoe” launch. While the sneakers are stylish now, they have an opportunity to greatly appreciate in value, depending on Dončić’s future NBA performance and cultural impact.
