Ann Freeman (f.k.a. Herbert), former VIP of Nike North America, has been named to the board of Allbirds, effective immediately. This was announced by Allbirds in a press release on August 17. Allbirds described Freeman as a former 26-year employee of Nike who most recently served as its VP and general manager for North America.
In the press release Ms Freeman said, “I am delighted to join… the Allbirds Board at such an exciting moment as consumers worldwide are seeking a no compromise approach to footwear and apparel focused on style, comfort, and sustainability.”
Freeman was forced to resign from her executive role at Nike last year when her son’s business was exposed in a sneaker resale scandal. Nike announced that although it did not find that she violated any company policies, after discussions with her then manager, Heidi O’Neill, they came to an agreement that it was best for her to leave the company. Nike CEO, John Donahoe, later weighed in on the matter saying “The fact of the matter is, this incident has sparked questions in some of our consumers about whether they can trust us, particularly around launch product.”
After Freeman left Nike appointed Sarah Mensah in her position.
