DraftKings Is Now Creating NFTs For Fantasy Football Fans

Fantasy sports have grown in popularity over the recent years and are now an incredibly big business with the industry generating billions of dollars every year. DraftKings, the daily fantasy sports and betting company, has partnered with the NFL Players Association to launch a new version of their game involving NFTs. Using blockchain technology, DraftKings will begin using player NFTs as part of their daily fantasy games.

The fantasy sports game known as Reignmakers Football is using NFL players’ name, image, and likeness (NIL) rights to create two types of NFTs for a digital fantasy game; field passes and player cards. These NFTs will essentially be digital trading cards of different players, that fans can use much like in a traditional fantasy football game. Some of these NFT player cards also give you access to exclusive contests, drops, and more. There will also be an element of encouraging collection, where the more of these NFT player cards you own, the more you will be able to win different prizes. There are five different types or ‘levels’ of each NFT player card: Core, Rare, Elite, Legendary and Reignmaker, being the rarest of all of them.

People who are registered with the DraftKings Marketplace can receive a full-roster Starter Pack of these NFT player cards and start creating a football lineup to compete against other fantasy players. Sports betting and fantasy sports has become one of the biggest industries for sports fans over the last decade. By adding an element of NFTs, it makes sense how this can drive DraftKings’ gamification and potential generate more revenue for them. If the people playing fantasy sports start developing a deeper understanding and appreciation for NFTs, this could unlock millions of new NFT owners around the world.
