CryptoPunks NFTs Enter the Guinness Book of World Records

The famed Guinness Book of World Records has a new 'Cryptomania' section that outlines record-breaking NFTs.

CryptoPunks NFTs Enter the Guinness Book of World Records

The Guinness Book of World Records, published annually, outlines all the records achieved (by human or nature) within one year. This year for the first time ever, the well-known book of world records included a Cryptomania section that listed CryptoPunk #5822 as the “most valuable NFT collectible in existence.”

The Cryptomania section is a new section in the book that records everything crypto-related including the cryptocurrency, NFTs, and other tokens.

It seems CryptoPunk #5822 earned the spot after it sold for a whopping 8,000 ETH ($23 million) in February 2022 just before the market went into its winter season. Unfortunately Beeple’s ‘Everydays’ NFT sale was left out of that list due to a technicality. Everydays was sold for $69.3 Million through Christie’s in 2021, making it the most expensive NFT ever sold.

The inclusion of this new section within the well established Guinness Book of World Records can be seen as further legitimizing crypto in the eyes of skeptics and anyone hesitant to enter the space. Moving forward, we can expect even more NFT-related data points to find a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as NFTs become more culturally relevant.
