Crypto Art Exhibition Opening at the Museum of Modern Art

Designed by Refik Anadol, The New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has announced the official opening of their crypto art exhibition titled ‘Unsupervised.’

For this specific project, Anadol has been working with an AI tool to redesign and transform over 200 years of art at MoMA. According to a statement from the museum, Anadol’s brief was to train the AI to interpret these pieces and turn them into something new. The AI’s job is therefore to reimagine the history of the art pieces and interpret what they could be in the future. While the machine ‘walks about’ the museum, Anadol will also take information such as lighting, acoustics and weather changes outside to affect the shifting imagery. All of this information will be stored on the blockchain as a public record of Anadol’s work.

The exhibition opened on November 18 and will run through to March 5, 2023. According to MoMA “each work will be made available to collectors as nonfungible tokens, or NFTs.” Art collectors and Web3 enthusiasts can look forward to the development of art within the space, as phygital collections continue to be exhibited. Taking place at one of the most well known places in the world for physical art, this exhibition further validates the evolution of art into Web3.
