Chrome Hearts Drops a Custom Pair of Nike Air Max 95s for $5,000

A pair of Nike Air Max 95s is up for sale on the Justin Reed site for $5,000. The pair is a one-off, custom made work of art by Chrome Heart’s Matt DiGiacomo, who has created a true collector’s item.

Chrome Hearts is known for their one-of-a-kind items, or what the brand describes as “oddities,” which range from toilet plungers to sunglasses. A noteworthy collaboration with the brand was with Bella Hadid in late 2020, when the brand and supermodel teamed up to support hunger relief in the USA. The brand has no shortage of celebrities rocking garments and accessories, including Drake and LeBron James.

Matt DiGiacomo, who started off doing collaborations with the brand, is now Chrome Hearts’ full-time Creative Director. He has turned this pair of shoes into an exclusive drop by adding his signature custom touch to make it one of the rarest, most coveted pairs of sneakers. The white pair comes in a US size 9.5 and features accents of gray on the heels and lace loops with the swoosh stitched in white. The custom doodles are painted in aqua and yellow and only feature on the left shoe, near the toe box and on the heel.

In the midst of the endless sneaker collaborations and a crowded drop calendar, it’s interesting to see a designer like Chrome Hearts get in on the action without an actual organized collaboration and still staying true to its brand. This one of a kind piece makes for a valuable collectible, particularly for fans of sneakers and luxury fashion. Nike has done several collaborations with luxury brands in the past, and perhaps that range of collaborations will continue to grow.
