American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish’s latest Nike collaboration features a pair of Air Force 1s intentionally made with “environmentally preferred” materials.
A fan of many Nike sneaker silhouettes, Billie’s latest collab re-envisions a Nike classic- the Air Force 1- as an environmentally friendly offering.
Billie x Nike collabs are nothing new, but the added emphasis on sustainability is. Nike’s April 11 press release on the collab reads “the shoe is entirely made of 18% post-consumer recycled content, including a synthetic buck upper that uses 80% recycled materials, 100% recycled polyester details and an underfoot made with Nike Grind."
If you’re not yet familiar with Nike Grind, it's a Nike-led sustainability program that helps transform unused manufacturing materials and retired sneakers into newly recycled materials to eliminate waste, and reduce the unnecessary production of new materials.
Coincidentally, the project’s eco-friendly theme is joined with an earthy mushroom colorway, a variation from Billie’s classic lime green. Billie’s love for Nike classics and oversized styles are made evident by her integration of chunky midfoot straps on the shoes, inspired by the Alpha Force Low and Air Trainer 3.
Billie’s unique style is further brought to life in the associated Nike x Billie Apparel Collection, featuring an oversized T-shirt, hoodie sweatshirt, and sweatpants- all simplified with her chosen tonal mushroom colorway. All clothing products are adorned with simplistic “Billie Eilish” silicone graphics.
Fans of Billie, sneakers, Nike, or any of the 3 can find the Air Force 1s and the drop’s related apparel on Nike’s SNKRS app starting April 25.
