ASICS, Solana, and StepN: A Web3 Shoe Collection

Japanese sportswear company ASICS and blockchain Solana have partnered up to bring us a new shoe collection that explores ways Web3 can reward loyal customers. With the purchase of these shoes comes an ASICS loyalty badge NFT. And with a partnership with move-to-earn blockchain app StepN, users are being incentivized with NFT prizes to walk, jog, or run.

The collection presents a pair of running shoes in two colorways inspired by designs from the Solana community: Dark Mode and Light Mode. The Light Mode colorway is a white shoe with light gray details, whereas the dark shoe is a black shoe also seen with light gray details. Made with a breathable mesh upper, the shoe features a limited edition Solana gradient that is placed on both the heel and tongue. The heel also features a reflective ASICS badge icon.

The shoes were available during a 5-day window between November 4-8 on the ASICS website. Additionally ASICS announced that they will be airdropping 1,001 ASICS x STEPN “OG” Solana Realm NFTs to the ASICS Badge holders; 1 rare, 150 uncommon and 850 common. These NFTs are tied to the app StepN and also provide you with potential ASICS customer rewards. Last year, ASICS launched a set of NFTs but this new partnership with Solana and StepN seems a lot more thoughtful.

ASICS views NFTs as a way to explore giving customers commemorative art related to shoes and as a way to provide future discounts, products, and events to their customers. Partnering with Solana and StepN also gives ASICS access to existing Web3 communities. If this works well, the model could be replicated by other sneaker and retail brands who want to experiment with how phygital collections can improve customer loyalty.
