$132K Sale of 49ers’ Rookie Card Breaks Records.

Last Thursday Trey Lance’s 2021 Panini Flawless Platinum NFL Shield Patch Rookie Autograph card sold for $132k in an auction on the PWCC Marketplace. There is only one copy of this rookie card in the world. This sale has broken the previous record of a Lance card, almost doubling it. The previous record for a Lance card was $61k. Trey Lance is a 22 year old entering his first season as the 49ers starting quarterback.

This, coupled with his recent performance in his first NFL preseason game could have contributed in a major way to the spike in interest from followers. In that game, San Francisco won 28-21 against the Green Bay Packers because of his deep pass to rookie receiver Danny Gray which resulted in a 76 yard touchdown. Player value can often be seen in their cards as we saw in Justin Herbert’s cards quickly reaching six figure sales because of his very strong start with the Chargers.

So if Lance also has an outstanding first year, we could start seeing his cards climb to even higher prices, especially if he ever reaches MVP status or, dare we say, takes the 49ers to Superbowl LVII. It’s starting to look like that this might be a big year for him in the NFL and if he maintains this status, those who buy his cards now will be very happy in the future.
